MEXICAN STYLE DEMOCRACY AT WORK IN MEXICO CITY - Photos by Tony Perez

On my recent visit to Mexico City, I came upon this protest demonstration taking place at the Benito Juarez Plaza in Mexico City.  It appears that the supporters of Andre Manuel Lopez Obrador, the former candidate for president, seem to believe, to put it politely, that they were robbed at the last election.  They believe that their candidate Obrador should have won, because they feel they had the popular vote.  Sounds familiar.  The election was given to the now Mexican President, Felipe Calderón.

As people were speaking from the podium, behind the demonstrators came two tourist buses down the street filled with young men and women, well dressed, who at first seemed to support the demonstrators at first; but then the mood turned to making fun of the demonstrators, because these young people were from the upper middle class families that supported Mexican President Felipe Calderón.
